  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped or yellow onion
  • 1 lb ground beef 85/15 or substitute with ground turkey
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce use tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce or vegetarian oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar can substitute with honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice or lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes or 1 minced Thai chili
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves, chopped or regular basil
For Wrapping
  • 8-10 pieces rice paper wrappers preferably Vietnamese-style
Optional Ingredients
  • ½ cup fresh mint customize according to taste
  • ½ cup cilantro for additional brightness
  • ¼ cup green onion, chopped for crunchy texture
  • ¼ cup julienned carrots or cucumbers to boost texture

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic and chopped shallot for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart, and cook for approximately 8-10 minutes until browned.
  3. Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and chili flakes, then simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and mix in lime juice and chopped Thai basil. Allow to cool slightly.
  5. Set up a rolling station with warm water, rice paper wrappers, and the beef mixture.
  6. Soak one rice paper wrapper in warm water for 5-10 seconds, then lay it flat on a clean surface.
  7. Place a spoonful of the filling near the bottom of the wrapper, fold the sides and roll tightly.
  8. Slice the rolls in half and serve on a platter with your choice of dipping sauce.
