Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with unsalted butter.
  2. Tear the day-old French bread into bite-sized pieces and place in a large mixing bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together whole milk, granulated sugar, large eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the torn bread pieces and let soak for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. If using, gently fold the raisins into the soaked bread mixture.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the greased baking dish and drizzle melted unsalted butter over the top.
  7. Bake the pudding for 45-50 minutes until set in the center and golden brown on top.
