Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons of brown sugar with 2 tablespoons of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly for about 2-3 minutes until the sugar dissolves and the syrup thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into a small bowl. Gradually add ½ cup of cold water and whisk vigorously for about 1-2 minutes until smooth and slightly frothy.
  3. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Pour the cooled brown sugar syrup over the ice.
  4. Slowly pour in ¾ cup of milk of your choice over the syrup.
  5. Using the back of a spoon, gently pour the prepared matcha over the milk to maintain layers.
  6. Sprinkle a pinch of matcha powder on top as an optional garnish. Stir gently or enjoy the layers.
